| Abstract | New York native Stanley W. Abbott worked as a landscape architect on the Blue Ridge Parkway from 1934 until 1946. In this interview, he begins by listing people whom he thinks were vital to the success of the parkway. Abbott also touches on the initial planning stages of the parkway. While a majority of the interview focuses on his other projects, there are references to the Blue Ridge Parkway sprinkled throughout as he makes comparisons to other park projects. One such instance is when he talks about how land along the Mississippi River Parkway was acquired through scenic easement, a method that gained prominence during the construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway. |
