Description Image shows a wooden sign titled "Sharp Top Trail". The sign is located near the trailhead of Sharp Top trail, near the Peaks of Otter bus station and camp store. The Image was taken near milepost 86 and Section 1K of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Taken by Robert G. Bruce in December 1971. The sign reads:

Sharp Top Trail / A hike of an hour and a half on this 1.5 mile trail will lead to the summit of Sharp Top, elevation 3875. Climbed by early Indians and a popular site since Colonial days, the peak was once believed to be Virginia's highest point. Later surveys proved others were higher, including nearby Flat Top, elevation 4001.
