Description | Image of a cane mill and evaporating pan in the Mabry Mill area near milepost 176.1, section 1T of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The contraption behind the interpretive sign is a cane mill. The cane mill was designed to be powered by a horse or mule which is hitched to the pole. The animal then walks in a circle turning the mill. To the right front of the mill is an evaporating pan. The pan is divided into several compartments. Behind the cane mill is a large field. An unidentified structure can be seen in the far background of the image on the left.
