Description | Image shows a shallow trench which has been dug into the earth. On one side of the trench there is an arbor which appears to be built of tree trunks and tree branches. This area may be used to heel in trees in order to protect the roots from cold or heat until they can be planted in a more permanent spot. The image was taken in November 1947 in the Peaks of Otter area, near milepost 85 in Section 1J of the Blue Ridge Parkway. |
