About this Item
Title | Sheds (Torn down by BLRI 2/1/39) |
Date | January 18, 1939 |
Description | Photo shows several wooden sheds as well as a pile of wood planks, remnants of a structure that has already been torn down. The remaining structures were razed by the Blue Ridge Parkway on February 1, 1939. A larger building is visible on a hill far in the distance. Taken by Ted Pease on January 18. 1939, Station 480+00, Left, Section 2A, near Milepost 217. |
Commentary | When the Blue Ridge Parkway bought up land for the construction of the road and the protected land either side of the road, many farm buildings and houses were included in the purchase. Many of these old, traditionally built structures did not fit in to the vision of the Parkway and were torn down. |
