Title | Aerial Tram |
Title Note | Aerial Tram |
Date | August 1974 |
Description | Aerial tram for Blue Ridge Parkway and mountain views. Photograph taken by Robert G. Bruce in August, 1974, near mile post 235, located in the Bluffs District. |
Commentary | Worth Folger built the tramway, which spanned from Mahogany Rock to Scott Ridge, in the late 1960s. There were restrooms, a visitors' center, and a gift shop at Scott Ridge. However, the inability to post advertisements along the Blue Ridge Parkway, unpredictable visibility, and traffic congestion caused by visitors watching the cable cars eventually lead to the demise of the tramway. The surrounding 250 acres once owned by Folger are now a part of Stone Mountain State Park. |
