Driving Through Time - The Digital Blue Ridge Parkway
About this Image
| Title | Soco Gap Maintenance Site |
| Date | August 1974 |
| Description | Photograph shows a building with two garage-style doors and a fenced in-area with a vehicle at the end of an access road near mile post 455.5 in section 2X of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Taken by C. E. Westveer in August 1974. |
| Commentary | This small structure, like many others all along the Blue Ridge Parkway, is where tools and machinery are stored for road maintenance. The Blue Ridge Parkway's emphasis on nature requires that maintenance infrastructure be built out of sight so the landscape can remain as "pristine" as possible for visitors. |
