Description | Photograph indicates, with hand-drawn markings, the Blowing Rock town dump and the route for the Blue Ridge Parkway near mile post 290.4 in section 2F. Taken by A. S. Burns on July 27, 1940. |
Commentary | Construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway involved the removal of tons of dirt and other waste. For construction in this area, the National Park Service used the Blowing Rock town dump. As shown on the photograph, the dump was conveniently located near the route for the Blue Ridge Parkway. This photograph was probably used for planning purposes since the Parkway wasn't under construction yet. |
