About this Item
Title | Connection of Parkway with County Road to Blowing Rock |
Date | October 1, 1940 |
Description | Photograph shows an automobile and the site for a connection between a county road (Green Hill Road/State Road 1534) and section 2F of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Taken by A.S. Burns on October 1, 1940, near Station 715, Milepost 290. |
Commentary | Directors of the Parkway, particularly North Carolina's directors, tried to limit access points along the Parkway. In fact, limited access points was a point of controversy during construction of the Parkway. Residents who lived by the Parkway wanted more access to the road, but Parkway directors wanted to limit access in the spirit of the park theme of the Parkway. Here is a picture of an access point on the Parkway with Green Hill Road, one of only a few access points in this section. |
