| Commentary | This photograph was taken in 1935, just after the debates over whether the Blue Ridge Parkway should go through North Carolina or Tennessee. This series of photographs on Elk Mountain Scenic Road were taken by Edward H. Abbuehl, who was from the Landscape department of the National Park Service. The trip to Asheville was intended to show the designated route of the Parkway through Western North Carolina. |
