About this Item

Title Chimney dry-laid stone. D.F. Wagoner Place
Date February 14, 1936
Description Photograph shows detail of a stone chimney on the D.F. Wagoner place. An overturned washtub stands next to the chimney and the wooden side of the house is visible. Taken by "GWW" on February 14, 1936, Station 170 (vicinity), Section 2B, Milepost 232.
Commentary Parkway buildings reflected the architecture of the region through which they passed, such as this house. Use of such local forms was considered a sort of preservation, and characteristic features of mountain buildings, such as the stone chimney seen here, were borrowed for modern parkway structures.
