About this Item
Title | Coarse Stone Road in Section 2A |
Date | June 23, 1936 |
Description | Photograph shows an unpaved part of road in section 2A of the Blue Ridge Parkway with a steep embankment along the right side. |
Commentary | Here is an example of the initial flattened road of the Parkway before asphalt was used in the road construction. The road, here, is flat but full of smaller stones, which more than likely made for a bumpy ride down the early Parkway. The photo was taken in a valley somewhere in section 2A looking north. |
