Description Photograph shows a shed by the Brinegar Cabin, surrounded by a fence, rock walls, and baskets. Located near mile post 238.5 in section 2C of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Taken by F. A. Ketterson, Jr. on August 22, 1975.
Commentary Martin and Caroline Brinegar used this structure as a granary and root cellar. The granary/root cellar is a framed structure with a hand-split shake roof, four plain weather-boarded walls and a stone foundation. An upper level door provides access to the granary itself, a small door in the foundation leads into the root cellar.
