About this Item

Title Icy Rock Curve (3)
Date October 31, 1936
Description Ice forming at Icy Rock station 257-15, Section 2C of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Thermometer 50 degrees.
Commentary When constructing the road, special consideration had to be paid to the varying weather conditions often experienced in this area. This particular area presented a challenge because of the accumulation of ice often seen on slopes of mountainous roads as well as the sharp curvature in this section of the parkway.
