Commentary | The Parkway Craft Center (formerly known as Flat Top Manor) at Moses H. Cone Memorial Park, off of Blue Ridge Parkway. Located at milepost 294, section 2G. Picture taken September 1948. Picture taken by "Rowe." Picture taken from the National Park Service, Blue Ridge Parkway. Moses H. Cone was a textile industrialist who created his vacation home of Flat Top Manor house on 3,500 acres in Blowing Rock, NC. When Cone died, his wife Bertha left the Moses H. Cone Estate to the Moses H. Cone hospital, who donated the land to the National Park Service. The NPS turned the Flat Top Manor house into the Parkway Craft Center, run by the Southern Craft Guild and housing crafts from Appalachian craft makers. |
