Commentary | This image shows the portal to Tunnel #1 in section 2M. Tunnels were often employed to reduce or eliminate the need for excessive landscaping. The stone masonry portals on most of the parkway tunnels were generally not part of the original construction, but were added later, mostly in the 1950s and 1960s. |
