Description Photograph shows view from 10 feet inside and 7 ft. from the left wall of rock tunnel located in section 2M of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Commentary Tunnel #1 is found in McDowell County in section 2M. The tunnels were often employed to reduce or eliminate the need for excessive landscaping. Most of the tunnels are lined with concrete or gunite, a pneumatic cement.
