  • Description

The firefighter stands six feet tall, looking upward, holding a male child with a female child standing at his feet. The children are also looking upward with the male child pointing upward with his proper left hand. The firefighter is wearing meticulously detailed equipment typical of a modern firefighter. The figure is cast in bronze, weighs 800 pounds and stands on a square block of polished granite. The memorial stands in front of Greensboro Fire Station One on a large courtyard covered with red brick pavers. The courtyard is outlined in strips of granite and segmented into quarters by similar strips. The figure is centered in the courtyard positioned to face a flagpole. Engraved blocks of granite set into the courtyard form the Walk of Courage dedicated to firefighters living and deceased. A four feet high metal fence outlines the courtyard on three sides with the fire station forming the backdrop.
