    Two memorials to Gertrude Weil were dedicated on the same day at the old Guilford County Courthouse on December 7, 2022. One is a lectern shaped block of granite several feet high on a single granite base. A bronze tablet fills the lectern top and was funded by the Tannenbaum-Sternberger Foundation, Inc.

    The other memorial was sponsored by the North Carolina League of Women Voters. It is a rectangular plaque of steel or iron attached to a metal pole. The inscription lettering is raised and set against a white background. The border and pole are in pink or light red. A circle at and extending from the top, shows the logo of the National Votes For Women Trail.

    Bronze tablet inscription: GERTRUDE WEIL / 1879-1971 / “IT IS OBVIOUS THAT TO TREAT PEOPLE EQUALLY IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.” / “WOMEN BREATHED THE SAME AIR, GOT THE SAME EDUCATION; IT WAS RIDICULOUS, / SPENDING SO MUCH ENERGY AND ELOCUTION ON SOMETHING THAT WAS RIGHTFULLY THEIRS.” / AT THE GUILFORD COUNTY COURTHOUSE, OCTOBER 7, 1920, GERTRUDE WEIL OF GOLDSBORO, / PRESIDENT OF THE EQUAL SUFFRAGE ASSOCIATION OF NORTH CAROLINA IN 1919 AND 1920, / PRESIDED AT A DAY-LONG MEETING OF WOMEN FROM ACROSS THE STATE TO TRANSITION THE / ESANC TO THE NORTH CAROLINA LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS. THE 19TH AMENDMENT SECURING / WOMEN THE VOTE WAS RATIFIED AUGUST 18, 1920 AND SIGNED INTO LAW AUGUST 26, 1920. / MISS GERTRUDE WEIL WAS ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF THE NON-PARTISAN NORTH CAROLINA LEAGUE / OF WOMEN VOTERS, MRS. AUBREY L. BROOKS [*HELEN] OF GREENSBORO, THIRD VICE- / CHAIRMAN, AND MRS. JULIUS W. CONE [*LAURA] OF GREENSBORO, TREASURER. THE NEWLY / FORMED LEAGUE’S PURPOSE WAS FOSTERING EDUCATION IN CITIZENSHIP AND THE SUPPORT OF / PROGRESSIVE LEGISLATION.     The Weil marker is located on the front lawn of the Old Guilford County Courthouse on the 200 block of W. Market St., in Greensboro, NC. The Weil plaque is located on the west corner of the old courthouse lawn. Also nearby are the Bain Memorial and a memorial to Dr. George Simkins, Jr. A short distance to the west, are memorials dedicated to Pfc. Phill G. McDonald, Guilford County Vietnam Dead, Iraq and Afghanistan War Dead, and Greensboro Millennium Gate.
