    A tree that had toppled over during the celebration of UNC's 2009 NCAA Championship was carved into an arm outstretched and holding a basketball.

    Bassett worked on the sculpting of the tree over the summer of 2009 and he said that he never expected the tree to be permanent.

    The tree stood at the corner of Franklin and Columbia streets.

  • Former Locations

    In February 2012, the tree was taken down since the wood had decayed. When the tree sculpture was removed, a new tree was put there to replace it.

    As of 2012, the sculpture was in the process of being dried and preserved to be reused as a piece of public art.
