Know all men by these presents that we Thomas Jones Gent John Vann and James Villars Pollexfin of Chowan County in the Province of North Carolina are held and firmly bound unto Richard Spaight Esq. Secretary and Clerk of the Crown of the province aforesaid, in the full and Just Sum of four hundred Pounds procln Money, To be paid to the Said Richard Spaight Esq. his Heirs Extors Admors or assigns To the which payment well and truly to be made We bind ourselves our Heirs Executors & administrators Jointly and Severally firmly by these presents Sealed with our Seals and Dated this Twentieth day of September anno Dom 1756.

The Condition of the above obligation is Such, that Whereas the above bound Thomas Jones, having received a Commission for Clerk of the Crown and Clerk of the Court of Chowan County in the Said Province and Clerk of the Peace within the same, Now if the above bound Thomas Jones shall well and truly perform the Duty of His said offices, And pay the Governor his Secretary and the Said Secretary of this province their respective ffees as they become due Every Six Months, then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and Virtue.
