Halifax July 23rd 1776

Dear Sir,

Your favour of the 16th of this Instant we received for which you have our thanks. The sending the Gun powder to Brigadier General Rutherford from the necessity of the case was prudent and justifiable; the bearer Captain Crawley will deliver to Brigadier Person or his order, six hundred weight of that article for the district of Hillsborough, which it is expected will fully answer for the present.
