NewBern, 3d July 1778.

Sir:

When I had the pleasure of seeing you in NewBern I mentioned Capt. Tillman had made application to me for sundry warlike stores for the use of Fort Hancock. I have since delivered him to the amount of £915 for which I have his receipt.

This sum is carried to your Debit with me, in consequence of your engaging to see me paid.

I am with great respect your Excellency's mo. ob. hume. Servt.
