Sir:
Major Hogg will hand you this who is desired to make inquiry after a number of arms order’d for the Southern Army; Genl. Greene supposes them in this State. I have made inquiry from the Deputy Quarter Master Genl. of the continental parts, and also of the State, and can get no information, Except 6 or 700 Stand, which the Governor assures me were intend’d by the Congress for the sole use of the State Militia. If so, more order’d for the Army in all probability are yet in the Arsenal at Richmond. You will be pleased to make me a return of such Arms under your Care for the Southern Army, that order may immediately issue for more being brought forward.
