Sir:
I am sorry to inform you that I am under the necessity of resigning my commission in the Continental army for several reasons tho the principle one is, that I have no money to support me, and the public paying me nothing for my past services puts it out of my power to serve any longer.
I should have waited on you myself with my commission but it is not convenient, so hope you will excuse me, and consider this as my resignation which will much oblige.
