LT. RICHD. ANDREWS 2ND REGT. TO BRIG. GENERAL SUMNER.

Murfree’s Landing, 18th Aug., 1782.

Sir:

I am sorry to inform you that I am under the necessity of resigning my commission in the Continental army for several reasons tho the principle one is, that I have no money to support me, and the public paying me nothing for my past services puts it out of my power to serve any longer.

I should have waited on you myself with my commission but it is not convenient, so hope you will excuse me, and consider this as my resignation which will much oblige.

Your most Huml. Servt.,
RICHD. ANDREWS,
Lt. 2d N. C. Regt.
