HON. BENJAMIN HAWKINS TO HIS EXCELLENCY GOV. MARTIN.

Virginia, In Council, June 24th, 1783.

Sir:

There is in the public Jail at this place a man by the name of Levin Patterson who was committed on suspicion of his being one of the mutineers, who rose on & murdered several officers of the privateer General Gregory in the port of Edenton. I have the honor of giving you this information that if the charge is justly founded your Excellency may take measures for having him removed to your State for tryal where alone he can meet his deserved fate.
