I have been favoured with your Letter from Martinique and am happy to find you contributed your assistance to the Marquis de Bretigny, Agent for the State, in providing necessary merchandize for it.

The unfortunate changes of the Executive of this State last year prevented that attention being paid to the Marquis’s agency as the importance of it required, but at present, endeavours will be made to discharge the debts contracted and guaranteed by him with the utmost expedition.

I have not had the pleasure to see the Marquis since his return, (being in the Western part of the State) but make not the least doubt he will do justice to your zeal, for which this State is under particular obligations, as also render a satisfactory account of his

transactions. Please to honor me with your correspondence, enclosing me occasionally the news of the Island.
