I arrived here the third of this instant by order of Major Henry Dixon in order to receive Deserters and Drafted Delinquents, a return of which I have Enclosed. Of such as was here Delivered before was furlowed by Major Tatom, and those that were in Gaol made their Escape last night, I must think by the neglect of the Guard, the Captain of the Guard leaving his Guard for this Week past, no Officer to Command, most of them being sufficiently Ironed that made their Escape. Last Monday week I left Major McNeil’s Quarters, Elizabeth, Bladen County, who was Collecting Troops very fast, he expecting to make up 150 in that part of the State.
