Morisey, Thomas Junius

Thomas Junius Morisey (1818-1887) of Clinton, NC, the son of Penelope Bunting and Thomas Kenan (1793-1846) Morisey, entered the University in 1838, joined the Dialectic Society, and graduated with first honors in 1842, giving the valedictory address. He received the MA in 1845. A planter and lawyer, Morisey served in the NC Senate in 1854. He was married first to Ann Eliza Dockery (1832-1862), then to Mary L. Williams (1827-1884), who is buried with him in the Sardis Church cemetery outside Linden, NC. Some sources spell Morisey’s name with two rs, but Morisey signs his own name to a composition written while he was a junior with only one r.
