Faculty minutes for February 24, 1842, confirm that Allen Jones Polk and Thomas G. Polk, both from Tennessee, were dismissed (<xref url="http://www.lib.unc.edu/mss/uars/ead/40106.html#d0e2342">4:43, UA</xref>). Though Allen Polk subsequently was readmitted, he was involved in additional misbehavior—blowing a trumpet during a "spree" and answering for absent individuals at prayers—and was dismissed again on September 20, 1842 (<xref url="http://www.lib.unc.edu/mss/uars/ead/40106.html#d0e2342">4:78, UA</xref>). Neither student received a degree. Both were members of the Dialectic Society and became planters.
