Dewey, Charles Francis

Charles Francis Dewey (1825-1866) of Raleigh, NC, was the son of banker Charles Dewey (1798-1880). He entered the University in 1840, joined the Dialectic Society, and graduated in 1844. He became a physician in Goldsboro, NC. While a student, Dewey compiled in 1842-1843 lists of books read, quotations, and copies of writings by Shakespeare, Byron, and others; it is housed in the Charles Dewey Papers #216, Southern Historical Collection, Wilson Library, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
