Person, Samuel Jones

Samuel Jones Person (1823-1869) of Moore County, NC, was the son of Mary Bethune and Benjamin (1788-1827) Person. Samuel entered the University in 1841, joined the Dialectic Society, and graduated in 1843. He became a lawyer, was elected to the NC House of Commons (1848-1850, 1854), and served as a superior court judge (1854-1858). In 1850 he married Mary Bacot London (1825-1851) of Wilmington, NC, who bore him a daughter. In 1858 he married Ellen Tyler (b. 1837) of Virginia, with whom he had a daughter and a son.
