About this Image

Title Program for Today and Tomorrow: More Scrubbing - Iris
Date 12/17/1918
Item Type Newspaper (advertisement)
Publication Salisbury Evening Post
Description A flu outbreak caused the Rowan County Board of Health to mandate that movie theaters and poolrooms close to limit spread of influenza. During that time, Salisbury theaters used their ad space to emphasize their sanitary conditions. This ad is the most humorous: "Yesterday we used 'oodles' of soap, today and tomorrow we're going to use 'globs' of it." See December 14, 1918, p. 1 Salisbury Evening Post for more details on the Board of Health's decision
