This blue note features a slave carrying a basket of cotton and a central portrait identified in currency references as that of Samuel Adams. Adams (1805-1850) was a prominent politician, who served in numerous public offices: as a member of the Arkansas legislature, as the state's governor in 1844, and as treasurer from 1845 to 1849.
