In lieu of coins, this is yet another example of fractional currency issued by North Carolina. The central vignette is a variation on a common theme, freedom and plenty. The Roman goddess for liberty is sitting while the goddess of agriculture (a figure sometimes identified in other currency references as symbolizing peace) is shown standing. |
