Decorated with the image of the Roman goddess for agriculture, this 1864 note was among the last issue of currency authorized by North Carolina's state government. The General Assembly on December 12, 1863 authorized the printing and distribution of $400,000 in twenty-five and fifty-cent notes. Notes from this same issue that are overprinted with green ink instead of blue are far rarer and much more valuable to collectors of old currency. |
