Greensboro Mutual 50¢ Note
Printed date "Feb. 1st, 1862."
Even in the early stages of the war, the printers of state currencies
often found it difficult
to locate or maintain adequate supplies of paper. For private
companies, coping with
such shortages required even greater ingenuity. In place of regular
paper, some printers
used lining papers or wallpapers for the production of their notes,
such as the paper used
to print this type issued by the Greensboro Mutual Life Insurance
Company in 1862.
