        The Grand Chapter was opened in Ample Form.

         The M. Ex. Grand High Priest made a short and pertinent address.

         On motion, the reading of the minutes of the last Annual Grand Convocation was dispensed with.

         The Grand Secretary made his annual report, and it was received and referred to the Committee on Finance.

Office of the Grand Secretary of the Grand Chapter of Alabama,
MONTGOMERY, December 8, 1863.

COMPANIONS:--

        I herewith submit my report of the finances of the Grand Chapter, so far as they have passed through my hands during the past masonic year.

         The balance of the contingent fund, remaining in my hands at the close of the last annual convocation, amounting to four hundred and nineteen dollars, as shown by my report then made, has been paid over to the Grand Treasurer, and his receipt is herewith submitted. See account marked (A).

         The amount of "Dues" received at the last annual convocation was four hundred and eighty-two ($482) dollars. Of this sum it has been necessary to expend, during the current year, the amount of two hundred and ninety-one dollars--leaving in my hands a balance of one hundred and ninety-one dollars.

        The Grand Secretary presented a petition for a Dispensation for a Chapter at Lawrenceville, and it was referred to the Committee on Dispensations.

        The M. Ex. Grand High Priest announced the following

        The Committee on Work, through its Chairman, companion Peleg Brown, made report on the M. M., P. M., and M. E. M. degrees, and the report was received and concurred in.

        The Grand Chapter was called from labor to refreshment until to-morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, Dec. 9, 1863.

        The Grand Chapter was called from refreshment to labor at 3 o'clock. The M. Ex. Grand High Priest, H. P. Watson, presiding; the other Grand Officers at their several stations.

        The minutes were read and approved.

        Companion S. C. Williams, from the Committee on Dispensations, made the following report; and the report was received and concurred in:

Report from the Committee on Dispensations.

        Your Committee on Dispensations have had the duties assigned to them under examination, and respectfully submit the following report:

        Petition for Dispensation from W. A. O'Hara, J. J. Ward, W. E. Owens, and others, from Lawrenceville. We have examined the petition and find it in conformity with the constitution, and a recommendation accompanying the same from Eufaula Chapter No. 24. We recommend that a Dispensation be granted.

All of which is respectfully submitted.

        The Committee on Work, through its Chairman, Companion PELEG BROWN, made report on the R. A. Degree, and the report was received and concurred in.

REPORT FROM THE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE.

        The Committee on Finance, to which was referred the Annual Reports of the Grand Secretary and the Grand Treasurer, beg leave to report them correct.

        The balance in the hands of the Grand Secretary is one hundred and ninety-one dollars.

        The balance in favor of the Grand Treasurer is seventy-eight dollars and thirteen cents.

        Companion N. A. AGEE, from the Committee on Chartered Chapters, made the following report; and the report was received and concurred in:

REPORT FROM COMMITTEE ON CHARTERED CHAPTERS.

        The Committee on Chartered Chapters beg leave to report, that they have examined and found correct the returns of the following Chapters, viz:

        Alabama No. 66, Hartwell 58, Midway 72, Choctaw 44, Hiram 60, Monroe 4, Mobile 21, Fulton 32, Livingston 20.

        The following incorrect:

        The Committee remark that in almost every instance, the officers are placed wrong, the Masonic grade not corresponding with the form or rank given for grand officers, Alabama Chapter 66 being about the only exception.

All of which is respectfully and fraternally submitted.

        The Grand Chapter proceeded to the election of officers for the ensuing Masonic year, and the result was as follows:

WEDNESDAY EVENING, Dec. 9,1863.

        The Grand Chapter was called from refreshment to labor at 7 1/2 o'clock. The M. Ex. Grand High Priest, H. P. WATSON, presiding; the other Grand officers at their several stations.

        The Minutes were read and approved.

        The M. Ex. Grand High Priest announced the following appointments:

        On motion the sum of three hundred dollars was set apart in the hands of the Grand Secretary as a contingent fund for the ensuing masonic year.

        On motion, the Grand Treasurer was directed to loan to Companion THOMAS McDOUGAL, Grand Sentinel, the sum of twenty-five dollars on his own note, without interest.

        The Grand Officers elected for the ensuing Masonic year were duly installed.
