The need to sacrifice to preserve the environment

Hyatt argues that for the health of the community, individuals need to sacrifice some of their rights. Some people might have to decline offers to post billboards on their property; others have to resist dumping their garbage where they please. In either case, individuals must put the life of the county ahead of their own prosperity or comfort. This kind of sacrifice indicates that Madison County residents are more connected to one another and to other North Carolinians than they once were.
