The Honourable

President and board of trustees of the state of north Carolina the memorial of Thomas Baxter shews that your memorialist entered into compromise and bargain with Wm. Slade , Wm. H. Murphree, and Simon Turner Esquires , on the 2d day of April 1811, for certain lands which the trustees then laid claim to in Currituck County (known by the Cockton Land) for which land & premises your memorialist entered into bond to the amount of $1500 to be paid in three separate installments three years to come from the said 2d day of April 1811 that is the 1st due 2d April 1812 the 2d due 2d apr 1813 and the 3d due the 2d apr 1814 all of which became due before the titles were established by the Supreme Court of this state, which took place in Jany 1816 as your memorialist believes and by the procrastination of the suits of law respecting the title, have subjected your memo.s to much inconvenience and a burthen of interest to amount of $247.50 making the calculation of Int from the beginning due of the bonds to the 1st Jany 1816 that your memos. have paid in principal $1947, without Int which with Int make $2047.59½. That the Int on the debt of $1500, calculating Int to 24th Septr 1818 the date of the last payment is $493.11. Principal and Int makes $1993.11 which from the a/c stated if correct, the credit extinguish the debt and leave a balance of $54.48½ due in favour of your memorialist &c.
Now may it please the honourable board &c to calculate and correct my a/c if erroneous and further grant that the Int which accrued before the title were known, which is stated $247.50 and the balance between the debit and credit which appears to be $54.48½ which makes the sum of $301.98½ which your memorialist conceived that in equity and good conscience should be paid back to him which would leave a balance due the trustees the sum of $1691.12½.

Page 3
Your memorialist submit these remarks to shew the a/c more fully &c. Your mems. pray to be acquitted from the Int accrued before title confirmed and to be heard & dealt with in money as your mems. were drawn into the compromise contrary to his will whereby his own Judgment was perverted through advice of Mr. Slade &c all of which is respectfully submitted and in duty bound will ever pray &c.
