                        (inclosed) which if you think will answer I will thank you to lay them

                    <p>President and <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">board of trustees</name> of the state of <name key="name0000745" reg="North Carolina" type="place">north Carolina</name>
                        the memorial of <name key="pn0003308" reg="Baxter, Thomas" type="person">Thomas
                            Baxter</name> shews that your memorialist entered into compromise and
                        bargain with <name key="pn0003399" reg="Slade, William" type="person" rend="yes">W<hi rend="sup">m</hi>. Slade</name>, <name key="pn0003378" reg="Murfree,                             William Hardy" type="person" rend="yes">W<hi rend="sup">m</hi>. H. Murphree</name>,
                        and <name key="pn0003401" reg="Turner, Simon" type="person" rend="yes">Simon Turner
                        Esquires</name>, on the 2<hi rend="sup">d</hi> day of April 1811, for
                        certain lands which the trustees then laid claim to in <name key="name0000257" reg="Currituck County, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Currituck County</name> (known
                        by the Cockton Land) for which land &amp; premises your memorialist
                        entered into bond to the amount of $1500 to be paid in three
                        separate installments three years to come from the said 2<hi rend="sup">d</hi> day of April 1811 that is the 1<hi rend="sup">st</hi> due 2<hi rend="sup">d</hi> April 1812 the 2<hi rend="sup">d</hi> due 2<hi rend="sup">d</hi> ap<hi rend="sup">r</hi> 1813 and the 3<hi rend="sup">d</hi> due the 2<hi rend="sup">d</hi> ap<hi rend="sup">r</hi> 1814 all of
                        which became due before the titles were established by the <name key="name0000781" reg="North Carolina Supreme Court" type="organization" rend="yes">Supreme Court</name> of this state, which took place in Jan<hi rend="sup">y</hi> 1816 as your memorialist believes and by the
                        procrastination of the suits of law respecting the title, have subjected
                        your memo.<hi rend="sup">s</hi> to much inconvenience and a burthen of
                        interest to amount of $247.50 making the calculation of Int from
                        the beginning due of the bonds to the 1<hi rend="sup">st</hi> Jan<hi rend="sup">y</hi> 1816 that your memo<hi rend="sup">s</hi>. have paid in
                        principal $1947, without Int which with Int make
                        $2047.59½. That the Int on the debt of $1500,
                        calculating Int to 24<hi rend="sup">th</hi> Sept<hi rend="sup">r</hi> 1818
                        the date of the last payment is $493.11. Principal and Int makes
                        $1993.11 which from the a/c stated if correct, the credit
                        extinguish the debt and leave a balance of $54.48½ due in favour
                        of your memorialist &amp;c.</p>
                    <p>Now may it please the honourable board &amp;c to calculate and correct my
                        a/c if erroneous and further grant that the Int which accrued before the
                        title were known, which is stated $247.50 and the balance between
                        the debit and credit which appears to be $54.48½ which makes the
                        sum of $301.98½ which your memorialist conceived that in equity
                        and good conscience should be paid back to him which would leave a balance
                        due the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">trustees</name> the sum of $1691.12½.</p>

                    <p>Your memorialist submit these remarks to shew the a/c more fully &amp;c.
                        Your mem<hi rend="sup">s</hi>. pray to be acquitted from the Int accrued
                        before title confirmed and to be heard &amp; dealt with in money as your
                            mem<hi rend="sup">s</hi>. were drawn into the compromise contrary to his
                        will whereby his own Judgment was perverted through advice of M<hi rend="sup">r</hi>. <name key="pn0003399" reg="Slade, William" type="person">Slade</name> &amp;c all of which is respectfully
                        submitted and in duty bound will ever pray &amp;c.</p>
