			 M<hi rend="sup">r</hi> <name key="x" reg="x" type="person">Norvell</name> I duly
			 rec<hi rend="sup">d</hi>. The shells we then had, was thought to be sufficient
			 for raising the inside wall equal to those of the outside, and thought proper
			 to venture on that much, however the lime gave out before it was effected,
			 &amp; as the time of our brick laying was too short to make it worth while to
			 send Waggons to 
			 <name key="name0000362" reg="Fayetteville, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Fayette[ville]</name> expressly for more oyster shells; we have quit
			 the Brick work for this season. I observe what you say about the caping the
			 walls the same plank that has been necessarily employed for scaffolding will be
			 [sufficient] <gap reason="[unrecovered]"/> for that purpose. 
			 Capt<hi rend="sup">n</hi> <name type="person" rend="yes" key="pn0003196" reg="Rogers, John ">Rogers</name> says he<gap reason="[unrecovered]"/> receive an equivalent <hi rend="underscore">now</hi>, for
			 the bricks he has laid. By his contract he cannot demand it untill he has laid
			 250 thousand Bricks, but as those payments were predicated to be equal to the
			 bricks he had laid at the time such payment was made him; you may not perhaps
			 think it improper to pay him at the rate of 30/ p<hi rend="sup">r</hi> thousand
			 for all the brick he has laid in the Walls of the Main Building. I have to go
			 to 
			 <name key="name0000362" reg="Fayetteville, NC" type="place">Fayette[ville]</name> shortly and shall want 3 receipts in your
			 possession, each dated 
			 <date>May 7<hi rend="sup">th</hi> 1798</date> &amp; for £25 each
			 given by 
			 <name key="pn0001669" reg="Thompson, George N. " type="person" rend="yes">Geo. Thompson</name>, 
			 <name key="x" reg="x" type="person">Oliver</name> &amp; 
			 <name reg="x" key="x" type="person">Nathan Pierce</name>, &amp; 
			 <name key="x" reg="x" type="person">Thomas Moody</name>, all in consequence of so
			 much <hi rend="underscore">paid</hi>, for oyster shells to be delivered to me
			 at a future day, and some of the men have not fully complied with their promise

			 send me those receipts by return of the <gap reason="[unrecovered]"/> Waggon that
			 loads down for
