Dear Sir:
leaving without definitely arranging with Cavanaugh we have
probably lost him, as I can learn nothing of his whereabout. He has probably
engaged with somebody, and left N.Y. Or, as I have just been led to surmise, Niblo wishes to keep him, and
intercepts his letters. Of the second applicant, (McLaughlin,)
Mr. Jas.
Donaldson
has ascertained that he is employed upon Staten Island, with one
Mr. Reid. I shall
endeavor to see him and arrange with him to go to Ch. Hill, if possible, but as
a few days mayelapse before the matter can be
definitely settled, I have resolved to send you this note, to relieve your
suspense, and shew you that the matter is not quite neglected by me. I have
written to McLaughlin, and I now await his answer. I know that it is
time now, that you had him at Chap. Hill.Yours, most respectfully and truly
