                <p> At a special meeting of the <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board                         of Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee of the Trustees</name>
                    of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University of North Carolina</name> held in the
                    Executive Office this day, <name key="pn0000761" reg="Holden, William Woods" type="person">Gov. Holden</name> presiding, the following resolutions,
                    offered by <name key="x" reg="x" type="person">W. M. Coleman, Esq.</name>, were
                    unanimously adopted. </p>
                <p>Resolved, that in the death of <name key="pn0001638" reg="Swain, David Lowry" type="person">Gov. Swain</name> the people of <name key="name0000745" reg="North Carolina" type="place">North Carolina</name> have been deprived
                    of the services of one who, for more than forty years of public life, has
                    labored faithfully for their material, intellectual, and moral welfare. </p>
                <p>Resolved, that the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University of North Carolina</name>, and the cause of
                    education generally, and historical literature especially, have sustained in his
                    death an irreparable loss. </p>
                <p>Resolved, that these proceedings be published in the newspapers of this city, and
                    that <name key="x" reg="x" type="person">James F. Taylor, Esq.</name>, one of
                    the members of this <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board</name>, be requested to deliver a copy there of to
                    the family of the deceased. </p>
                <p>Resolved, that <name key="x" reg="x" type="person">James F. Taylor Esq.</name> be
                    instructed to communicate to the family of the deceased that the<name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization"> Board</name>
                    would desire the remains to be buried in the College Campus, near the monument
                    of <name key="pn0000268" reg="Caldwell, Joseph" type="person">President
                        Caldwell</name> if agreeable to their wishes. </p>
