                <p>I have been expecting a letter from you for several days, but receiving none I
                    have concluded to write to find out why you dont write. I got a letter from
                        <name key="pn0001591" reg="Speight, Seth" type="person" rend="yes">Seth</name> several days since. He was very well. There is nothing new to be
                    seen or heard about the <name key="name0000165" reg="Chapel Hill, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Hill</name> now. The students seem to be interesting
                    in nothing except baseball, &amp; their lessons. Our reports will be made
                    out in a day or two. I guess my stand on Math will be very low this session I
                    have been trying to improve my stand on the languages, a little but I dont know
                    whether I have succeeded or not. </p>

                <p>I have changed my boarding house since I wrote to you last. Miss <name key="pn0000741" reg="Hilliard, Ann &quot;Nancy&quot; Segur" type="person" rend="yes">Nancy</name> got to be so dirty I couldent stand it
                    She had a plenty &amp; a variety but it was sorrily served up I board with
                    Miss <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Sallie Mallett</name> now. It
                    is a great deal nicer house than Miss <name key="pn0000741" reg="Hilliard, Ann &quot;Nancy&quot; Segur" type="person" rend="yes">Nancy</name>'s.</p>
                <p>I am sorry to have to write to you for more money, but cant possibly do without.
                    I paid out all I brought up as soon as I got here in order that I might not
                    spend it for trifles. &amp; I haven't spent any foolishly. I shall need
                    seventy dollars. Please send it soon. I shall need a suit of winter clothes
                    before I come home. Please ask <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">John</name> to buy them for me &amp; tell him to put in the box with them
                    a pound or two of good <hi rend="underscore">chewing</hi> tobacco. That which he
                    bought for me before I left<pb id="unc06-116-p03" n="[3]"/> home, spoiled,
                    &amp; I cant get any here fit to use. </p>
                <p>Tell <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">John</name> &amp; Cousin
                        <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Clio</name> that they <hi rend="underscore">needent</hi> to write at all. I have been expecting a
                    letter from them so long that I have lost all hope &amp; quit. </p>
