		  <p> I had yesterday the honor of receiving yours of the 19<hi rend="sup">th</hi> ult.</p> 
	 		<p> When at the 
			 <name reg="University of North Carolina" key="name0001146" type="organization" rend="yes">University</name> I understood that Mess<hi rend="sup">rs</hi> 
			 <name type="person" reg="Baker, William" key="pn0003014">Baker</name> &amp; 
			 <name reg="McCulloch, Samuel" key="pn0003134" type="person" rend="yes">McCullock</name> had been re-admitted. This information at first
			 gave me some surprise &amp; induced me to believe that 
			 <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">the
				Trustees</name> were afraid that the institution would not be soon enough
			 ruined by the system of measures which had been previously pursued. But upon
			 further recollection I found it nothing more than a continuation of their
			 resolution to support the students against the faculty. Such doing &amp;
			 undoing must however be productive of the worst effects.</p> 
		  <p> In addition to your statement of accounts I would beg leave to
			 mention two other charges which I had against 
			 <name reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization" key="name0000107">the
				Trustees</name> &amp; which I do not recollect whether I mentioned before. One
			 is for seven days labor expended in filling up the vault of the
			 <hi rend="underscore">Necessary</hi> &amp; making other preparations for its
			 removal. The price of labor at that time as well as I can<pb id="unc06-21-p02" n="2"/>recollect was 5/ per day, suppose however 4/ as the lowest, it will
			 amount to 20/. For this I could not take any receipt as the labor was performed
			 by my own servant. </p> 
		  <p>The other charge is for circular letters written previous to the
			 examination &amp; by express direction of 
			 <name key="pn0000399" reg="Davie, William Richardson" type="person" rend="yes">Gov<hi rend="sup">r</hi> Davie</name>. How many there
			 were I cannot now tell, only recollecting one to the 
			 <name reg="Marcus George (ca. 1760/65?-1810)" type="person" rend="yes" key="pn0003073"> Rev<hi rend="sup">d</hi> Mr George</name> 
			 <name type="place" rend="yes" key="name0001205" reg="Warrenton, NC">
				Warrenton</name>, 
			 <name reg="Robinson, John" type="person" key="pn0003195" rend="yes">Rev<hi rend="sup">d</hi> Mr Robinson</name>  
			 <name type="place" key="name0003019" reg="Duplin County, NC" rend="yes">Duplin</name>, 
			 <name key="pn0001127" reg="McCorkle, Samuel Eusebius" type="person" rend="yes">Doctor M'Corkle</name>

			 <name type="place" key="name0000527" reg="Iredell County, NC" rend="yes">Iredell</name>. For these I took no receipt, not being able to
			 obtain a settlement with the Post Master who was in my debt.</p> 
		  <p> A receipt for the steel I had but have somehow mislaid it. </p> 
		  <p>One third of the tuition money on account of 
			 <name key="pn0003067" reg="Flinn, Andrew" type="person" rend="yes">Mr
				Flinn</name> is due to 
			 <name key="pn0000268" reg="Caldwell, Joseph " type="person" rend="yes">Mr Caldwell</name> which you will be so good as to hand him; the
			 other two thirds are due to me.</p> 
		  <p> A bar of iron sufficient to make staples &amp; use for the
			 Franklins was left in 
			 <name key="pn0003132" reg="McCauley, Matthew" type="person" rend="yes">Mr M'Cauley's</name> shop. This, the person undertaking to erect the
			 Franklins may have by applying<pb id="unc06-21-p03" n="3"/>for it at the shop.
			 These are all the particulars which I can recollect as appertaining to a
			 settlement between us.</p> 
		  <p> If you ever come into my neighborhood &amp; can allow yourself to
			 call I shall be happy to see you. In the mean time your letters will find me at
