After having taken a long walk & eaten supper, I now sit down to write
to my Dear Sisses. The letter of Miss
came the other day but I did not have an opportunity of
                    seeing Mr
as the
letter was handed me after he left, I should have been well pleased to have seen
him, I hope he will fill the vacancy occasioned by Miss
's death, very faithfully.

In your next you must write me how many students there are at
, what your studies are
                    &c.

Always remember to "push on push ever" in all your studies
& do not be discouraged by the frequent admonitions that you get from
home, but recollect that when you return home you will be considered as knowing
almost every thing, Your friends will expect a <hi rend="underscore">great
deal</hi> from you, do not disappoint them. I feel assured that you will not, I
                    congratulated
last vacation that he had two such daughters as you are
& I told him that you had already made great improvements. I truly
hope, My Dear Sisses, that you will exceed all the expectations concerning
                    you.—

I was much surprised by seeing today one of
's old customers in the streets
                    of
, you may know him, his name is
, he is going out West with his
                    family.—

I had the exquisite pleasure of seeing not long since "
" who
is twenty seven inches high, weighs twenty five pounds & is in his
twentieth year, he said he had two brothers who were very large men. I was also
very much amused last tuesday night (the 4th instant) by a ventriloquist who was
quite an adept in his art; after returning from the exhibition, some of the
students commenced illuminating their windows in honor of the inauguration of

& my room-mate who is a democrat wanted to illuminate
ours & having two windows that front the campus, he illuminated one
& I dropped the curtain of the other. if I had have had some crape I
think I would have hung it out; however I have no doubt but Mr
will make a
                    good president.

Miss
is not as smart as she supposed; she did not
send me the correct answer to my enigma.
had better try next. My very best
