                <p>The Committee upon the Subject of the disorders stated in M<hi rend="sup">r</hi> <name key="pn0000898" reg="Ker, David" type="person" rend="yes">Ker's</name> Letter, Reported, and after
                    amendment, the following was agreed to. That it is necessary to continue the
                    temporary law, made by the Faculty to prevent the Students living in the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University</name>, from going to Taverns without leave. That the Teachers
                    in the <name key="name0000432" reg="Grammar School" type="organization" rend="yes">Preparatory
                        School</name> shall be particularly informed that the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board</name> consider it their
                    duty to observe and reprove at all times the negligence &amp; disorders of
                    the members of the <name key="name0000432" reg="Grammar School" type="organization">School</name>. That the Scholars shall in common with the Students render
                    an account of their conduct to the Presiding Professor in the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University</name> hall, at the times appointed for that purpose. That the
                    Teachers be required to attend with the Scholars in the <name key="name0000432" reg="Grammar School" type="organization">Preparatory School</name> one whole
                    hour before Breakfast — the hour to be fixed on by the President or
                    Presiding Professor and Teachers of the School, who are hereby authorized to
                    except from this rule those Scholars who may reside in the Vicinity at an
                    inconvenient distance. Whereupon Resolved, that in future it shall be considered
                    a part of the duty of<pb id="unc07-01-p02" n="2"/>of the Tutors in the <name key="name0000432" reg="Grammar School" type="organization">Preparatory
                    School</name> to attend to the enforcing the General and temporary laws of the
                        <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University</name>; especially those which respect the morals, or relate to
                    the decent demeanor of the Students; as well such who are or shall be on the
                    General establishment of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North                         Carolina" type="organization">University</name>, as those who now are or
                    hereafter shall be under their more immediate direction in the <name key="name0000432" reg="Grammar School" type="organization">Preparatory
                    School</name>: And to the end the Joint Tutors are hereby declared, each of them
                    to have full power and the like authority with that which is or shall be visited
                    in the members of the Faculty individually: Provided, that although the
                    authority with respect to the due observance of the Laws of Order, &amp;
                    with regard to the keeping up decorum shall be the same in each Tutor as is
                    shall be visited in each Professor, so far as respects the Laws, rules,
                    &amp; regulations of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North                         Carolina" type="organization">University</name>; yet neither of them shall
                    be entitled to a vote in the making of any temporary law or regulation; but they
                    shall nevertheless be at liberty to attend on such occasions and to offer their
                    opinions.</p>
                <p>Resolved also, that the Law or regulation made by the Faculty, to prevent the
                    Students from going to Taverns without leave, be hereby confirmed &amp;
                    shall be continued in force until the next meeting of the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board</name>.</p>
                <p>Resolved, that the Faculty of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North                         Carolina" type="organization">University</name> shall have power to permit
                    the Students to be taught to dance, under such restrictions &amp;
                    regulations as they may think proper &amp; necessary to make, and no Student
                    shall consider himself at liberty to attend any dancing school during the
                    Session of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University</name> but under the permission of the
                    Faculty as aforesaid.</p>
