                <p>I would have written to you sooner but for the want of time I have been very busy
                    this session, but have become more accustomed to my studies &amp;
                    consequently have more time now. I received a letter from <name key="pn0001591" reg="Speight, Seth" type="person" rend="yes">Seth</name> this morning he is
                    very well.</p>
                <p>Every one in this vecinity seems to think that the prospects of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization" rend="yes">college</name> are better now than they have been since the war
                    After this session the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization" rend="yes">trustees</name> intend adopting the
                    University system, <hi rend="underscore">that is teaching by lecture</hi>. All
                    of the professors have resigned, but I suppose most of them will be reeelected. </p>
                <p>Miss <name key="pn0000741" reg="Hilliard, Ann &quot;Nancy&quot; Segur" rend="yes">Nancey</name> doesent keep half as nice a table this session as
                    she did last nor she hasent as many boarders.</p>

                <p>I have the prettiest little pet of a mocking bird you ever saw He is standing on
                    the table by me now, chirping for something to eat Tell Miss <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="yes">Emma</name> that I will make her a present
                    of him next winter if he dont die or get away Tell <name key="pn0001589" reg="Speight, Emma (née Lewis)" type="person" rend="yes">Mother</name> &amp; <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="yes">John</name> that I am expecting a letter from each them. Give my love to all
                    Kiss Miss <name key="x" reg="x" type="person">Emma</name>, I cant write to day
                    to save my life Write soon</p>
