Spaight</name> </item> </list> Judge <name key="pn0000276" reg="Cameron, Duncan" type="person">Cameron</name> presented the following Ordniances, which were read & unanimously adopted. "Be it Ordained by the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board of Trustees</name> of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University of North Carolina</name>. That a Committee of Seven Members of this <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board</name> (of whom the President shall ex officio be one) shall be appointed at every regular Annual Meeting of the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board</name> to be called "The <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee</name>," of the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Trustees</name> of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University of North Carolina</name>, a majority of whom shall form<pb id="unc10-02-p02" n="276"/>a quorum for transacting business. That all the duties heretofore assigned to and powers vested in the <name key="x" reg="x" type="organization" rend="">Land Committee</name>, the <name key="name0000224" reg="Committee of Appointments, Board of Trustees" type="organization" rend="yes">Committee of Appointments</name> and the <name key="name0003012" reg="Building Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization" rend="yes">Building Committee</name> be & they and hereby assigned to & vested in the <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee</name> hereby provided for. "The Secretary of the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board of Trustees</name> shall be Secretary of the <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee</name> — he shall attend their meetings and enter their proceedings in a regular journal to be kept for that purpose "The <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee</name> shall have power to make such contracts for the sale of the property & effects both real & personal of the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University</name> as they may deem best for the interests of the same. "The <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee</name> shall have power to alter, change & regulate the course of studies & discipline prescribed at the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization">University</name> and to dismiss any Professor or Tutor for such cause as they may deem sufficient. "All the Acts of the <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee</name> under the authority of this Ordinance shall be fully stated in the Journal of this Committee & shall be laid before the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Trustees</name> at the next regular Annual Meeting of the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board</name>. All former Ordinances and Resolutions of the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board of Trustees</name> Appointing a <name key="name0000224" reg="Committee of Appointments, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Committee of Appointments</name>, a <name key="x" reg="x" type="organization" rend="">Land Committee</name> and a <name key="name0003012" reg="Building Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Building Committee</name> are hereby repealed. <pb id="unc10-02-p03" n="277"/> "The <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee</name> to be Appointed under this Ordinance shall have power to fill all vacancies happening in their own Body." The <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board</name> proceeded to the appointment of the <name key="name0000352" reg="Executive Committee, Board of Trustees" type="organization">Executive Committee</name> under the foregoing Ordinance when the following persons were duly appointed. <list> <head>viz. —</head> <item>Governor <name key="pn0001638" reg="Swain, David Lowry" type="person" rend="yes">Swain</name>, ex Off.</item> <item> <name key="pn0000276" reg="Cameron, Duncan" type="person" rend="yes">D. Graham.</name> </item> </list> It having been represented to the <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board</name> that a man by the name of <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">Levi Drake</name> late of <name key="name0000314" reg="Edgecombe County, NC" type="place" rend="yes">Edgecombe County</name> died some time since Intestate & that his estate supposed to be worth $4000 — had escheated to the <name key="name0001146" reg="University of North Carolina" type="organization" rend="yes">University</name>, it was Resolved that <name key="x" reg="x" type="person" rend="">George W. Mordecai</name> Esquire be Authorized & employed as the Attorney of this <name key="name0000107" reg="Board of Trustees" type="organization">Board</name> to reduce said estate into possession by bringing Suit or by sales & compromises to convert the same into available funds. The Resignation of <name key="pn0001314" reg="Owen, William Hayes" type="person" rend="yes">William H. Owen</name> as Tutor of Mathematics was read & accepted & <name key="pn0003130" reg="McAlister, David W." type="person" rend="yes">David M<hi rend="sup">c</hi>.
